“Leaving behind the pre-genomic stage in which the sequence of human genome was completed, it is compelling to be now fully immersed in the post-genomic era and be part of it.”
During my PhD thesis, besides from studying the molecular mechanisms and genetics of Type 2 Diabetes, I also explored the emergence of the diverse transcriptional products hidden in the genomic wastelands. This balance has shaped my research perspective, which lies now on understanding better the regulatory and transcriptional complexity of the genome.
By joining Jan-Wilhelm’s laboratory, I find the opportunity to uncover how noncoding RNAs are involved in ageing-related diseases, and the implication in the regulation of energy homeostasis. Decoding the function of these regulatory elements will definitely broaden therapeutic targets to fight complex metabolic diseases.
